HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer

We have had our printer for several years and loved the instant ink feature. Mid November it stopped printing and we could not get it to print again. We have 6 cartridges of the instant Ink. Because we could no longer print, we canceled our Instant Ink subscription.  Now I have received a message stating I can not use the instant ink cartridges any more. When I installed non instant ink, it says it is incompatible.

When logging in today, we noticed our warranty expired today of all days.  Does HP do this so you can't print after the warranty expires, or how to I get around all of this? We loved our printer for 9 years, and it was still working perfectly, until the instant ink, can not print message showed up mid-Nov.

Hi @BNewhall,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's unfortunate that you're facing issues with your HP ENVY 4520 printer. It's important to note that HP's Instant Ink program and printer warranties are separate matters, and the expiration of the warranty should not directly affect your ability to use the printer or ink cartridges.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  • Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware updates. Sometimes, compatibility issues are addressed in firmware updates. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP support website. Follow the instructions provided to update your printer's firmware.
  • Reset the Printer: Try resetting your printer to its default settings. This can often resolve various issues. Refer to your printer's manual or HP's support documentation for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
  • Reinstall Printer Drivers: Uninstall the printer drivers from your computer and reinstall them. Ensure that you download the latest drivers from the official HP website that are compatible with your operating system.
  • Check for Cartridge Issues: Make sure the non-Instant Ink cartridges you are using are genuine and compatible with your printer model. Ensure that the cartridges are installed correctly.
  • Verify Subscription Cancellation: Double-check that your Instant Ink subscription is indeed canceled. If there are any issues with the cancellation process, contact Instant Ink support for assistance.
  • Review Terms and Conditions: Review the terms and conditions of the Instant Ink program to understand any limitations or restrictions. If needed, contact HP Instant Ink support for clarification.

Remember, it's essential to use genuine and compatible ink cartridges to avoid potential issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
