Hello All,
I am using the drivers provided on the Macbook. The printer is available via USB and WLAN and prints documents.
I can select duplex etc. so it seems to communicate with the Macbook and works properly.
But if I select pure black, it still prints in colours. If I remove the colour cartridge, and select pure black on the print menu, then it prints pure black. How can I solve this issue. I do not want to remove the colour cartridge every time I want to print pure black.
Firmware update on the printer said, that no new firmware is available.
Any help is appreciated.
Kind regards Kai

Hi @Kai65,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the issue might be related to the printer settings or driver configuration on your MacBook Air M1. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem:
Check Printer Settings: Ensure that the printer settings on your MacBook Air are configured correctly. Open the printer settings/preferences on your Mac and verify that the printing mode is set to "Black & White" or "Grayscale" instead of "Color." This setting should force the printer to use only the black ink cartridge when printing.
Update Printer Driver: Even though you mentioned using the drivers provided by macOS, it's still worth checking if there are any updates available. Sometimes, updates can improve compatibility and functionality. You can check for updates by going to System Preferences > Software Update on your MacBook Air.
Reset Printing System: Sometimes, resetting the printing system on your Mac can help resolve printing issues. To do this, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, right-click on the printer in question, and select "Reset printing system." Then, re-add your printer and try printing again.
Check Ink Levels: Make sure that the black ink cartridge has sufficient ink levels. If the cartridge is running low, it might not be able to print pure black properly. Replace the cartridge if necessary.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello Rachel571,
thank you for your comprehensive reply.
I have done all you suggested but with no improvements:
Update Printer Driver: The printer driver provided by Apple is the most current
Reset Printing System: I reset the printing system and added the printer again, no improvement.
Check Ink Levels: Ink Levels are good. I added new cartridges.
Check Printer Settings: On the Mac, there is no option to get to the printer settings directly as on Windows. Only in the application, e.g. Word or Pages, I can set how to print the document, e.g. colour or pure black or duplex.
Still, when I select "black only" it uses the colour cartridge to produce grayscale. If I remove the color cartridge, and print black only, the outcome is different.
So unfortunately also the colour cartridge is used when I print black only. On my Windows Laptop this is different. There I can print black only.
Kind regards
Kai
