The page prints with lines missing and the words that are there are only the top portion of the word most of the time. I have tried to clean cartridges and align cartridges and clean smear with no luck of fixing the issue. My ink levels are full on the black ink and only 1/4 left in colored however only printing in black at the moment. This same issue was happening with previous black cartridge. I confirmed this same thing is happening when taking a copy on the printer, so it's an internal printer issue. When I print the alignment page all of the black letters don't print and bottom portion of letters gets cut off. Please help.

@kelseykstr, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Since the issue happens both when printing and making copies, it's likely a hardware-related problem rather than a driver or software issue. Here are the steps to troubleshoot and fix your HP Envy 5055 printer:

Check the Ink Cartridge Vent

  • Remove the black ink cartridge.
  • Inspect the vent (top side of the cartridge). If it's clogged with dried ink or adhesive residue, gently clean it with a lint-free cloth.
  • Ensure the vent is clear before reinserting the cartridge.

Manually Clean the Printhead

Since automatic cleaning didn’t help, you should manually clean the printhead:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the ink cartridges.
  • Dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water and gently clean the copper-colored contacts and nozzles on the ink cartridge.
  • Also, clean the printhead inside the printer.
  • Let it dry for a few minutes before reinserting the cartridges and turning the printer back on.

Try Printing in Different Quality Modes

  • Go to Printer Properties > Printing Preferences > Paper/Quality.
  • Change the Print Quality to "Best" or "Normal" instead of "Draft".
  • Try printing again.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Print a test page.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • Go to HP Support and check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer.
  • If an update is available, install it and restart the printer.

Replace the Black Ink Cartridge

Since the problem persists across multiple black cartridges, it could be a faulty batch. Try replacing the blank ink.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
