Hi all,
My girlfriend was gifted an HP Envy 5070 printer from her sister, I went out and bought the correct HP 65 cartridges for the printer and when I went to use them the first time, it gave me a "Use SETUP Cartridges" error. I do not have these SETUP cartridges nor does her sister. I searched a bit on the forums and saw similar issues that needed to be assisted by HP Support. I haven't been able to find any resolutions on this specific model on Google, YouTube or Reddit. I called HP Support and after 20 minutes of my time, they told me I would need to pay $90 whether they can help me or not.
I have tried resetting all of the settings within print configuration, reseating the cartridges, trying one cartridge at a time and a soft reboot as well as a full reboot of the printer itself. Nothing has worked, I can not figure out how to get around this "Use SETUP Cartridges" error and as far I'm concerned I just spent $40 on ink for no reason.
Is there anyone that can PLEASE help with this? It is driving me nuts!

Hi @itslaff
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I understand that you are getting a bypass setup cartridge error. I'd like to help!
Follow the steps below and keep me posted on how it goes.
- Touch the Home button once, then the Back button twice, then the Home button once.
Option#1 is Back & Option#2 is Home in the above picture.
NOTE: Envy Photo 7000 control panel buttons are not backlit, so they may not be visible.
- Open the ink cartridge access door, and then close it. A Load Paper message displays on the control panel display, and the printer begins initializing.
- If the initialization does not begin, repeat steps 1 and 2 until it does.
- Follow the prompts on the control panel display to complete initialization.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
