I’ve had an HP Envy 6000 printer for many years, I rarely print anything these days but pretty much every single time I do, the print quality is abysmal. The page comes out as if the cartridge is empty, however, I frequently replace what should be a virtually full cartridge with another full cartridge. Sometimes this works, many times it doesn’t.
Is there some way to “clean the print heads” or anything like that, to keep the printer in proper operating condition? I don’t have empirical data, but I often feel like I get 5 pages per cartridge over the course of a year, then have to replace it!
Clearly this isn’t sustainable, so before I junk the printer and try to find another one that works for me, I thought I’d drop this in the forum.

Hi @WolvesDave,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps.
Automatic Printhead Cleaning:
Load paper into the input tray.
Open the HP Smart app, go to Print Quality Tools, and select Clean Printhead.
Review the printed diagnostic page. Repeat cleaning if necessary.
Manual Printhead Cleaning:
Turn on the printer and open the ink cartridge access door.
Remove ink cartridges and clean printhead contacts with a damp, lint-free cloth.
Allow contacts to dry, reinstall cartridges, and perform a test print.
Additional Tips:
Use genuine HP ink cartridges.
Print regularly to prevent ink from drying out.
Check for firmware updates.
