My printer is printing as if it is low on ink. However the estimated ink level shows it still has ink. Anyway to get an actual ink level?

Hi @Sparky573,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I completely understand how frustrating it can feel when your printer acts like it’s running on fumes even though the ink levels look fine. It’s like expecting a full cup of coffee and getting just a few drops, definitely not the experience you want when you’re trying to print something important.
The HP Envy 6055e uses estimated ink levels because most modern HP cartridges don’t have sensors to measure the exact ink inside. That said, here are some steps you can take to get the most accurate picture and ensure your prints look sharp:
Step 1: Print a Diagnostic Page
This will give you a visual check of ink usage and nozzle health.
- On the printer control panel, press and hold the Information button (i) until all buttons light up.
- Press the Information button (i) again.
- The printer will print a Printer Information Page showing ink levels and print quality.
Step 2: Use HP App
The HP app provides the best estimate of ink levels.
- Download or open HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site.
- Add your printer if not already connected.
- Tap Supplies Status to view ink levels.
Step 3: Check for Print Quality Issues
If colors look faded or streaky, it might be clogged nozzles rather than low ink.
- In HP Smart, go to Printer Settings > Tools > Print Quality Tools.
- Run Clean Printhead and, if needed, Align Printhead.
Here’s the official HP guide for your printer:👉 HP DeskJet, ENVY 6000, 6400 printers - No black ink, wrong colors, other print quality issues | HP® ...
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
