HP Smart says both recently replaced cartridges are OK. However, the black cartridge won't print. I've done all of the restarts recommended (unplugging the power cord). I've tried removing the color cartridge, per one former HP employ. That just results in nothing on the printed page. I 've used HP Smart to clean the cartridges (both regular and advanced) several times.
Sometimes I have a red X in a circle displaying, which indicates an error, and sometimes I don't.
A real frustration with the 6400 is there is no display with words indicating the problem. Anything diagnostic prints out. GREAT - it prints out in Black Ink. My Black ink isn't working from this new cartridge I received from HP.
The cartridge is releasing ink, because it's left a couple of black smudges when I've removed and replaced it.
The Virtual Assistant is pretty sucky. I've followed recommended steps, to no avail.
The website (https://www.hpsmart.com/us/en/ucde/print_plans) is pretty poor also. It shows both cartridges to be good ("You’re good on ink. No need to replace.")
I'm running Windows 11 and my wife still has Windows 10. It won't print Black for either computer.
I'm at loss. Trying to chat with an agent just leads me off to another raft of questions, leading nowhere.
