My HP Envy 6400e stopped working.
The printer lost its Wi-Fi connection and after a factory reset, the ink cartridge carriage got stuck and won’t move at all. HP Smart still sees the printer’s Wi-Fi signal but never connects.

I’ve tried Wi-Fi reset, factory reset, and power cycle, but nothing works.
I contacted HP Support several times (chat and phone), but the issue was not resolved. During calls, agents hung up when I asked them to repeat due to accent issues, and my last chat had no reply for over 30 minutes.

In my last support chat, I spoke with three different representatives in the same session. Each of them repeated the same troubleshooting steps, and the entire conversation lasted more than an hour — yet the problem was never resolved.

I honestly don’t understand the purpose of transferring me between multiple agents if none of them can provide an actual solution. This experience was extremely frustrating and disappointing. @HPSupport

Hi @ivanieong,

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Envy 6400e printer isn’t responding properly and the ink carriage seems stuck after a factory reset. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Power Reset the Printer

Unplug the printer while it’s powered on.

Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips).

Turn the printer back on and listen for the carriage to move.

Check for Paper or Cartridge Jam

Open the ink cartridge access door and carefully look for any jammed paper or obstruction around the carriage.

If you see any debris, remove it gently without forcing the carriage.

Manually Free the Carriage (if stuck)

With the printer unplugged, open the access door and try moving the carriage slowly to the center.

Do not apply too much pressure — it should move freely once any obstruction is cleared.

Reinstall the Ink Cartridges

Remove both cartridges and check for protective tape or ink buildup on the copper contacts.

Reinsert the cartridges firmly until they click into place.

Reset Network Settings

On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wi-Fi and Cancel (X) buttons together for 5 seconds.

Wait until the Wi-Fi light starts blinking, indicating the printer is ready for setup.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi through HP Smart App

Open the HP Smart app and select Set up a new printer.

Follow the on-screen steps to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Make sure your phone or PC is on the same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band.

Perform a Printer Self-Test

Press and hold the Information (i) button until a test page prints.

If the page prints, your printer mechanism is working correctly.

I hope this helps.
