Our Envy 6458e printer just keeps giving an error message about the cartridges even though the cartridges have been replaced, the software updated, all troubleshooting steps taken, yet this piece of garbage is now just an amber-lit brick. It's clear we are among a large group of people with this issue, yet no resolution has been provided. You produce expensive garbage and your customer support is a joke.

Hi @SqueeSquee ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I am sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your HP ENVY 6458e All-In-One Printer. The E0 error typically relates to issues with the ink cartridges. Here are a few steps you can take that might help resolve the issue:
Check for Protective Tape: Ensure that all protective tape has been removed from the new cartridges. Sometimes, the tape can be missed, causing the printer to fail to recognize the cartridges.
Reinstall Cartridges: Remove the cartridges and then reinstall them. Make sure they click into place properly.
Clean Cartridge Contacts: Dust or ink residue on the cartridge contacts can cause errors. Turn off the printer, remove the
cartridges, and gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and in the printer with a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water. Allow them to dry before reinserting the cartridges.
Update Firmware: Even if you’ve updated the software, ensure the printer firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates resolve hardware recognition issues. Update the firmware on an HP printer
Reset the Printer:
- Turn the printer on if it’s not already.
- With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn the printer on.
Check for Blockages: Inspect the carriage path for any obstructions or jammed paper that might be causing the error.
Printer Placement: Ensure the printer is on a flat, stable surface. An uneven surface can sometimes cause mechanical errors.
HP Smart App: Use the HP Smart app for detailed diagnostics. The app sometimes provides more specific error details and troubleshooting steps.
Replace Cartridges: Although unlikely with new cartridges, it’s possible they are defective. Try using another set of cartridges if available.
