HP ENVY Photo 7830 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Hey ya'll!

I bough a used printer and am currently trying to set it up. Now bear with me, this is my first time ever owning a printer, and while it technically works, it seems to have two issues. A: I keep getting an error message when trying to align it (something something make sure to put unused, white paper in, which I have) and B: the printer will print every color BUT cyan, which is weird since its a tricolor cartridge. I have already cleaned the cartridges manually and let the printer have a go at it a couple of times but none of that has worked. Mind you the cartridges are brand new and I have reset the printer as well.

Does anyone have any solutions/explanations? Would be very grateful 🙏

@Ruepv, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Envy 7830!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP Envy 7830 might have a couple of issues related to cartridge recognition and ink flow. Here are some things you can try:

Alignment Error Issue

If your printer keeps asking for unused white paper but doesn't proceed with alignment, try the following:

  • Ensure you’re using plain, white A4 or Letter-sized paper (avoid glossy or recycled paper).
  • Remove the paper, fan it out, and reinsert it into the tray properly.
  • Clean the paper rollers with a lint-free cloth to remove dust.
  • Restart the printer and try the alignment again.

If the error persists, try skipping the alignment and see if the printer still works fine.

Cyan Not Printing (Despite a New Tricolor Cartridge)

Since cyan isn't printing, even though you have a new cartridge, try these steps:

Run a Printhead Cleaning Cycle

  • On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Settings > Tools > Clean Printhead and let it go through the process.
  • Do this up to three times (sometimes ink takes a while to flow properly).

Check Ink Levels & Venting

  • Even though the cartridge is new, check if the ink levels show correctly on the printer.
  • Remove the cartridge and inspect the vent area (top side of the cartridge). If there's a yellow/orange sticker or tape covering the vent hole, remove it. If the hole is clogged, gently clean it with a pin or needle.

Try a Different Cartridge

  • Sometimes, new cartridges can be defective. If possible, test with another tricolor cartridge.

Print a Diagnostic Page

  • Go to Settings > Print Reports > Print Quality Report and check if cyan appears at all.
  • If the cyan section is missing, the issue is likely with the printhead or ink flow.

Manually Prime the Cartridge

  • Take the cartridge out and gently blot the bottom nozzle area on a paper towel. You should see three ink colors (cyan, magenta, and yellow). If cyan is missing, the cartridge may be defective.

Let me know how these steps go! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
