HP ENVY Inspire 7220e All-in-One Printer

Hi Guys,

My printer is brand new and only prints magenta and black. I have run the diagnostics and cleaned the printer head 3 times. I have updated all drivers.

This is the second time this has happened to me as I took the first printer back, thinking it was just a one off problem.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

The print cartridges used in the Envy Inspire 7200e have printhead and ink supplies built into the cartridge.  It sounds like you have already done the troubleshooting steps in the document here.

If that is the case please try the following:  remove the color cartridge and gently blot the printhead on a damp tissue.  A good cartridge will show a strong blot of cyan, magenta and yellow, it appears yours will show magenta only.  If that is the case you will need a replacement cartridge.  The cartridges do have a warranty, see the document here for information.

If you need to print before the replacement color cartridge arrives the following may resolve the issue:

Put 1" of hot (not boiling) water in a disposable cup.  Remove the color cartridge from the printer and place it in the cup in the same orientation it would be in the printer, with the printhead facing downward.

Let the cartridge soak for fifteen minutes.  Remove the cartridge and gently clot the printhead on a damp tissue.  Also wipe the excess water from the electrical contacts.  Put the cartridge back in the printer and try printing a test page.  If the color is not working properly at this point then go through the troubleshooting steps in the document above.
