Hi @Angela233,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating this can be, especially right after installing a new ink cartridge. The “Cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer” message on the HP ENVY Inspire 7955e usually points to a connection issue with the cartridge, an HP+ / Instant Ink mismatch, or a setup alignment that did not complete. Let’s try a few steps that normally fix this issue.

1. Make sure you are using genuine HP cartridges

The ENVY Inspire 7955e (part of the 7900e series) only works with HP 64 / 64XL cartridges or HP Instant Ink cartridges, depending on your subscription.

You can verify cartridge authenticity here: HP anti-counterfeit | HP® Official Site

2. Reseat the black cartridge

Sometimes the cartridge does not seat correctly.

  1. Power on the printer
  2. Open the ink access door
  3. Remove the black cartridge
  4. Check for any protective tape (orange tab) still attached
  5. Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks
  6. Close the door and wait for the printer to detect it

3. Clean the electrical contacts

Dust or ink residue on the contacts can cause communication errors.

  1. Turn the printer OFF
  2. Remove the cartridge
  3. Use a lint‑free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water
  4. Gently wipe the copper‑colored contacts on the cartridge
  5. Wipe the contacts inside the printer as well
  6. Let everything dry for 10 minutes
  7. Reinstall the cartridge

4. Restart the printer

A simple power reset often clears communication errors.

  1. Leave the printer turned ON
  2. Disconnect the power cable from the printer
  3. Unplug from the wall socket
  4. Wait 60 seconds
  5. Plug the cable back into the wall and the printer

5. If you are using Instant Ink

If you have an Instant Ink subscription, the printer will not accept normal retail cartridges.

You can check your subscription status here: HP Instant Ink – Ink Monthly Subscription | HP Official Site

If the black cartridge is an Instant Ink one, ensure you did not mix a regular HP 64 with an Instant Ink cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
