I put a new HP color ink cartridge in my HP printer Envy5000.  A full HP black cartridge was still in the printer.

But the display shows: "Printer ready. No ink cartridge installed".

In addition, the printouts are in the wrong colors: 1. Original color, 2. before inserting the HP color cartridge, 3. after inserting the new HP color cartridge. (compare Sreenshoots).

Can you please help me?

Kind regards

Reinhard Wollnik.

Hi @rewoje38,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Envy 5000 is not recognizing the newly installed color cartridge, which could be causing the printout issues. Here's how you can troubleshoot this problem.

Check the Cartridge Installation:

  • Double-check that both the black and color cartridges are properly installed. Make sure they are securely seated in their respective slots.

Inspect the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Remove the cartridges and check for any protective tape still attached to the new color cartridge. If there is tape, carefully remove it.
  • Wipe the metal contacts on both the black and color cartridges with a lint-free cloth to ensure there’s no dirt or ink buildup that could interfere with the connection.

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes help the printer reset its connections and recognize the cartridges.

Check Ink Levels:

  • If the issue persists, check the ink levels through the printer’s display or through the HP Smart app. Even though the cartridge is new, it might not be recognized if it’s defective.

Try a Printer Diagnostic:

  • Use the printer’s built-in diagnostic tools (accessible via the printer display or HP Smart app) to check for issues related to ink cartridges or the printer itself.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. Sometimes, a firmware update can resolve issues with ink cartridges not being detected correctly.

Print Quality Test:

  • Run a print quality test after ensuring everything is correctly installed. If the colors are still wrong, you might need to run a color calibration from the printer’s settings menu or the HP Smart app.

If the issue remains unresolved after these steps, you might want to try using another color cartridge to rule out a defective one.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
