Hi,

I have a HP F2200 deskjet scanner and printer combined. I have put in new ink cartridges twice now and have been unable to align the cartridges - thus I have a out of focus printout. I have printed out the test page and put it in the scanner as directed, I am then asked to scan the document using the button on the printer. When I press the button, the green button flashes but the scanner does not scan the printout in order to align the cartriges.

I can scan a document using the tools on the laptop and the scanner works fine but when I try to use the button on the top of the machine as per the instructions, nothing scans - please help as I need to print off barcode labels and currently the labels are unreadable by the barcode reader of the courier. Also the barcode of boarding card would not work also today!!

How can I align the print cartridges when the scanner is not scanning the test page?

Hi @Gspotjulian,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing with your HP Deskjet F2200 not scanning to align the print cartridges can be frustrating. Here are a few troubleshooting steps to help resolve the problem.

Check Connections and Restart

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Disconnect any cables (USB, power, etc.) from both the printer and the computer.
  3. Wait for about 2 minutes.
  4. Reconnect all cables and turn the printer back on.

Clean the Scanner Glass

  1. Lift the scanner lid.
  2. Clean the scanner glass with a soft, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water or a glass cleaner. Ensure there are no smudges or dust particles.

Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  2. Wait for 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

Use HP Solution Center or HP Printer Assistant

  1. Open HP Solution Center or HP Printer Assistant on your computer (the software that came with your printer).
  2. Look for an option to Align the Cartridges or Calibrate the Printer. This will guide you through the alignment process using the software, bypassing the need to press the button on the printer.

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  5. Turn the printer on.

Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

  1. Go to the HP support website.
  2. Search for your printer model and download the latest firmware and drivers.
  3. Install the updates on your computer and restart the printer.

Manual Alignment (if available)

Some HP printers allow for a manual alignment process through the printer’s control panel or software. Check the printer manual or HP’s website for specific instructions related to your model.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be a hardware problem with the scanner component of the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi,

I did everything you asked above - then used the printer doctor and it found that the some of the programmes in the printer "Twain" were either corrupt or missing. The solution was to reload from the cd disc for the printer which then linked to HP for further loading info - half way through this loading of data the download stopped and said this is not supported - I use win 8.1 64 bit and it would not allow me to go further. I then tried to load it onto my other Dell Laptop running win 10 in the hope of aligning the cartridges using the win 10 supported laptop, however the same thing happened. This is really a shame as I have seen other posting with the same issue however for some reason they were able to overcome the issue but I cannot. The printer itself works but the cartriges just need aligning but as the scan button does not work to scan the printout that aligns the cartridges. If there is some info here to help please put a link directly to the actual info as the help section is a nightmare. Thanks

Hi All,

I'd like to update this posting so it may help others. For a short time after I had this issue and reported it here, I continued to use the printer until the black ink ran out. I replaced the black ink and the usual happened, it printed out an alignment page to scan. Giving the printer a "final chance to save itself from the skip" I put the print out in the scanner and with the maintenance window open and the printer connected to my laptop pressed the scan button. On the laptop screen came a message that there was an issue with the twain and proceeded to go onto the internet of it's own volition and downloaded the relevant files.

Totally mystified, I pressed the scan button on the printer and to my utter surprise, it scanned and aligned the print heads. So to prove this issue out, I printed another test sheet and ran the alignment again and it worked. I know it  sounds stupid, but I guess the black ink cartridge was the issue or at least a part of it. So I am still using the printer and the cartridges appear to be in line. I hope this helps someone with a similar problem or at least offers another possible solution.

Thanks to all that tried to help.
