HP Instant Ink Cartridges Too Big

I have a free subscription with HP Instant Ink. I received ink from them and the cartridges fit into the slots inside the printer but they can't recede back into the printer because they are too big. I was chatting with a virtual agent and they could not find a solution to my problem. So, how exactly am I supposed to use them?
