The spittoon on my HP Officejet Pro L7780 printer overflowed ink. I have disassembled it to clean. Noticed there was only one pad covering the black head park zone. There was NO pad on the cyan park zone. Is that correct or do I need to purchase a pad or spitoon?

Hi @Smuck,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's important to be careful when disassembling your printer to clean it, as it can be easy to damage the delicate parts inside. Here are some steps you can take to clean the ink spill from your HP Officejet Pro L7780 printer.

  1. Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Remove the ink cartridges from the printer and set them aside.
  3. Locate the spittoon, which is usually located at the bottom of the printer. It is a small, rectangular container that catches excess ink during printing.
  4. Carefully remove the spittoon from the printer and empty any excess ink into a container.
  5. Rinse the spittoon with warm water to remove any remaining ink. Be sure to dry it thoroughly before reinserting it into the printer.
  6. Use a damp cloth to wipe down any ink that may have spilled inside the printer. Be sure not to get any water or moisture on the electronic components.
  7. Reinsert the cleaned spittoon into the printer and reattach any other components that you removed.
  8. Reinstall the ink cartridges and plug the printer back in.
  9. Turn on the printer and run a test print to make sure everything is functioning properly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks.. the spitoon is attached to its base by a spring. Don't want to damage it. Do you have more detailed instructions on how to remove it? I will be happy to pay for a Service Manual for the L7780 if you have access to one.

Trying to remove the spitton on my L7780.. appears to be attached by spring.  Can anyone provide instructions on removal for cleaning?

Really.. your solution is to throw away a perfectly good $600 printer because HP does not want to provide the instructions on how to replace/clean the spitton? I believe this task is routine maintenance and being routine, the information should be readily available. I am willing to buy a Service Manual for the L7780 but it appears that HP will not release them. Would appreciate a real answer to my question. Thank you
