HP LaserJet MFP 179fnw prints double, repeats output, shows a shadow at the bottom of the page

The printer prints things double on the page, it repeats the top half of the page mostly at the bottom half of the page, as a smear, a shadow. I am attaching a printout of the demo page.

I have followed the document about print quality, there is nothing visibly wrong with the toner cartridges or the imaging drum.

I have tested this both with color output, and with standard black-and-white text output.

I have also verified that I can work around the problem by only printing at the top half of the page, i.e., print A5 content at the top half of an A4 page.

My problem is exactly the same as https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Ink-Cartridges-Print-Quality/Print-Repeat-Shadow-at-Bottom-of-... , I am seeing almost identical print artifacts, but the original discussion is now closed.

Has the imaging drum malfunctioned, and is this a common problem with HP MFP 179fnw?
