Has anyone had issues with the HP Laser Jet Pro 3301 fdw stopping to print properly ? We received this machine as a replacement for our previous machine that after replacing the cartridges began to have issues with printing quality. This machine had a similar problem with printing quality almost immediately after we received it. Even with brand new HP cartridges. It now wont print AT ALL, just few dots, in either color or black and white. However, our original warranty has expired so now I can't find out how to get HP to help us. I'm so incredibly disappointed with the poor quality of this machine. Especially after we spent so much money on toner for it.

@mpupedis, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing such frustrating issues with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301fdw, especially after investing in new toner cartridges. I understand how disappointing it can be when a replacement unit also fails to perform as expected. Let's try to get this resolved together.
Check for Firmware Updates
Outdated firmware can cause printing issues. You can update your printer firmware using the HP Smart app or directly from the printer’s control panel.
Print Quality Troubleshooting
If you're seeing only dots or faint prints, it could be a toner or imaging drum issue. Try the following:
- Remove and reinstall all toner cartridges.
- Gently shake each cartridge to redistribute the toner.
- Check for protective seals or packaging left on the cartridges.
- Run a print quality report from the printer menu to identify which color(s) are affected.
More detailed steps are available here:

Perform a Cold Reset
This can help clear any internal errors:
- Turn off the printer.
- Hold down the Cancel and Right Arrow buttons while turning the printer back on.
- Continue holding until the printer displays "Permanent Storage Init".
Note: This will reset the printer to factory defaults.
I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!

Hello,
No the problem has not been at all resolved. We received the HP Laserjet Pro MFP3301fdw as a replacement for a machine that had stopped functioning. (this was the original problem). This machine however stopped working well very shortly after we received it. We replaced the starter cartridges with genuine HP cartridges. The print quality quickly deteriorated and now the machine doesn't print well at all. Before the trouble shooting it was just printing a smattering of black dots. We are horribly disappointed with this machine.
We have tried all the troubleshooting steps that were suggested.
The firmware is up to date.
The toner cartridges are practically brand new , though we did take them out, lightly shake and put back in as recommended.
We have also run cleaning pages (several times)
The diagnostic test page is barely legible. It doesn't seem to offer any useful information. This was better after running the cleaning pages but it really just went from terrible to less awful.
These steps SLIGHTLY improved the test page All the colors are incredibly light. The right side is worse than the left.
The Magenta is the WORST being entirely absent, but the other colors, including the black, are still very faint. The magenta not working has been a chronic issue between the original machine, the replacement machine of the same type, and this machine.
