HP Laserjet 281fdw not compatible with HP 202X toner

We are in Hong Kong and have an HP Laserjet 281fdw. It printed fine with the HP203A toner cartridges that came with the printer; however, these do not seem to be available in Hong Kong, nor have I found them in the US. 

I purchased HP 202X cartridges, which are said on the HP site to be compatible with 281fdw and a replacement for 203A. However, I consistently get an 'incompatible' error.
