HP Laserjet 4700 dn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just recently changed the cyan cartridge on my printer (HP laserjet 4700 dn) and the ink got all over the inside on the transfer belt and the printer started making  a loud grinding sound. The cartridge said it was compatible with the printer and HP products, but the printer has never made that sound before. The operating system is Windows 10 and my laptop is an HP Probook.

I'm wondering if the transfer belt needs replacing or if it's the color cartridge? I recently updated the drivers, as the first replacement cyan cartridge was not even recognized by the printer and I read that sometimes it's the drivers that aren't up to date. The message I got from the printer was along the lines of "not genuine HP product" and would not accept the cartridge. I put the old one back in and the only message I got was "replace cyan cartridge."

I have the printer on Diagnostics Mode, so it will still print, even though it's not recognizing the cyan cartridge. The problem is that the printer is only printing in black toner, even though I have all my printer settings on color.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Jill

If the printer started making the noise after replacing the cyan cartridge and the cartridge is dumping toner then 100% guarnateed you have a faulty Cyan cartridge. The spilled toner will likely dissapate after you replace the defective cartridge. If you have your old cartridge still you could reinstall that to test.
