HP MFP140w won't print with Amazon purchased HP Ink. I am getting the "problem with your HP Account" message which means I haven't signed up for Instant Ink. I don't want to sign up for instant ink due to the little printing we do here. Is HP holding printers hostage in order to get people to sign up for their service?

If your HP MFP140w is showing a "problem with your HP Account" message and you are not enrolled in the HP Instant Ink program, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges you purchased from Amazon are fully compatible with your HP MFP140w. Sometimes, third-party or incorrect cartridges can lead to errors.

Disable Instant Ink:

  • Since you do not wish to use Instant Ink, make sure your printer settings are not mistakenly configured to use Instant Ink cartridges. You can check this by logging into your HP account and verifying your printer settings.

Reset Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source for about a minute. Then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear errors.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date. You can do this by visiting the HP Support website and downloading the latest firmware updates.
