Hi @mario_g,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer is persistently displaying an ink cartridge error with new genuine HP cartridges. You can follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that you are using the correct HP cartridges for your printer. The recommended cartridges for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 are:

  • For the United States and Canada: 950 Black, 951 Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow

  • For other regions, refer to the specific cartridge number provided by HP for your region.

Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Turn on the printer.

  • Place your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer and pull forward to open the cartridge access door.

  • Wait until the printer carriage moves and becomes idle and silent.

  • Push in on the front of the ink cartridge to release it, and then pull it towards you to remove it.

  • Check the cartridges to ensure there is no protective tape left on them and inspect them for any damage.

  • Reinsert the cartridges by sliding them into their respective color-coded slots until they click into place.

  • Close the cartridge access door.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.

  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.

  • Wait at least 60 seconds.

  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer and the wall outlet.

  • Turn on the printer.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges: Ensure that you are using genuine HP cartridges, as non-HP products can sometimes lead to errors. Genuine HP cartridges are specifically designed for optimal performance in HP printers.

Checking and Cleaning:

  • Inspect the cartridge contacts for any dirt or debris.

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the ink cartridges and inside the printer.

Updating the Printer Firmware:

  • Make sure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Official HP® Support to ensure compatibility with the latest cartridges. This can often resolve unexpected errors.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
