Hi @MYPEARL,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer is showing an error message indicating that the ink cartridges are missing or damaged despite using new HP cartridges, you can try the following troubleshooting steps.
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
Check and Reinsert the Cartridges:
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Remove the ink cartridges and inspect them for any protective tape or plastic that might not have been removed.
- Reinsert the cartridges, making sure they click into place securely.
Clean the Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the ink cartridges and gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer with a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for firmware updates via the printer’s control panel or the HP website.
Reset the Printer:
- Sometimes, a printer reset can help resolve cartridge recognition issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it for a few minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
Try Different Cartridges:
- If you have another set of cartridges, try installing them to see if the problem persists. This can help determine if the issue is with the cartridges themselves.
Check for Obstructions:
- Make sure there is no debris or obstructions in the cartridge slots or around the cartridge area.
Printer Alignment:
- Perform a printer alignment from the printer’s control panel to ensure the cartridges are correctly recognized and aligned.
If the issue persists after trying these steps, there might be a problem with the printer’s hardware.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
