HP Office Jet 8210 ink cartridge is 954. On-line says it accepts 952 but the printer will not accept. 954 is not available. What can I do? Is there a software upgrade that lets the printer accept 952?

Hi @jimlloyd5,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet 8210 printer is not accepting the HP 952 ink cartridges, even though online sources indicate compatibility, there could be a few reasons for this issue.

  • Incorrect Cartridge Type: Double-check that you are using the correct ink cartridge type. The HP OfficeJet 8210 printer typically uses HP 952 ink cartridges, but it's possible you might have a different printer model or cartridge version. Ensure that the cartridge you have matches the specifications for your printer.
  • Genuine HP Cartridges: Make sure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Some printers have authentication systems that only accept genuine cartridges, and using third-party or refilled cartridges may result in compatibility issues.
  • Cartridge Not Seated Properly: Ensure that the ink cartridge is correctly inserted into the printer. Open the printer cover, carefully remove the cartridge, and then reinsert it firmly until it clicks into place. Check for any obstructions or debris that might be preventing proper seating.
  • Printer Firmware Update: Sometimes, HP release firmware updates that can affect cartridge compatibility. Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP OfficeJet 8210 printer and update it if necessary. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP support website or through the printer's control panel.
  • Cartridge Expiration Date: Check the expiration date on the ink cartridge. If it has expired, the printer may not accept it.

Remember to always handle ink cartridges with care, and follow the HP instructions for proper installation. Using non-genuine or incompatible cartridges can sometimes cause damage to your printer or result in poor print quality.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
