Hi @Al429,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus (N911g) is reporting that both your new and old ink cartridges are “damaged.” This often has nothing to do with actual physical damage, but rather a firmware, chip recognition, or electrical contact issue.

Below are accurate technical steps to try and resolve the issue.

Step 1: Perform a Power Reset

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. With the printer ON, unplug it from the power outlet.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in directly to a wall outlet (not a surge protector).
  5. Turn the printer back on.

Step 2: Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  1. Open the cartridge access door.
  2. Remove all cartridges.
  3. Use a lint-free cloth very slightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
  4. Gently wipe the gold-colored contacts on each cartridge.
  5. Also, clean the corresponding contacts inside the printer (look for small metal dots).
  6. Let everything dry for 5 minutes.
  7. Reinsert all cartridges firmly, even the old ones.

Step 3: Try Reinstalling the Cartridges in This Order

  1. Remove all cartridges again.
  2. Power off the printer.
  3. Turn it back on.
  4. Insert cartridges one at a time, starting with black, then each color.
  5. Check the screen after inserting each one.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
