Hi @JP421,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I'd like to help!
You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.
There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why its not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

HP often updates the software so ink sellers have to update the chips they use. Another seller might have more up-to-date chips. But if you use re-manufactured cartridges, you should go to your settings and turn off the automatic updates. (Every time HP updates the software, fewer re-manufactured. cartridges will work.)

I have printers that are maybe ten years old and all I am going to do is replace them with another brand that does not block Generic Cartridges. I think this is illegal and against consumer rights. I have a feeling the new administration will feel the same way. I will take this to my Senators and House member. HP needs to be investigated for this since for many years I was able to use non HP refill Cartridges.

Yeah, it's infuriating. But I don't know if it's not legal. I don't believe they automatically block generic brands. What they do is frequently "updating" the software, so generic brands have to keep up to date on each change and a cartridge which works one month might not work the next. What you can do is disable the automatic updates in your settings, so they will not continuously search for the newer codes.
