I have an 8630 that ran out of ink recently in the C cartridge. everything was working fine up to that point. I replaced the Cartridge with spare genuine HP cartridge I had on hand. I then received an error message that the cartridge installed was damaged and wouldn't work. I removed it and put the original (empty) back in. It gave me the same notice and also said the yellow was now damaged. I purchased new ink cartridges at Staples and got the same notices. Purchased more new cartridges and same error. I have reinstalled print drives and still get the same results. ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? I AM STALLED OUT AND NEED TO PRINT SOME THINGS ASAP.

Hi @joshthornton,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8630. Here are a few suggestions to try and resolve the problem:
- Check Cartridge Contacts: Sometimes, the contacts on the ink cartridge or in the printer can become dirty or covered with ink residue. Try gently cleaning the metal contacts on both the cartridges and the printer using a lint-free cloth and a bit of distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
- Reset the Printer: Perform a hard reset of the printer. Turn the printer off, unplug the power cable, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and power it on. This can sometimes clear error messages and reset the printer's cartridge detection system.
- Re-seat the Cartridges: Ensure the ink cartridges are installed correctly. Remove them, and carefully reinstall them, making sure they click into place properly.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Since you are using macOS, make sure your printer's firmware is up-to-date. You can check the printer's settings menu or use the HP Smart app to check for and install any available firmware updates.
- Use HP Printer Assistant: If you have it installed, open the HP Printer Assistant software on your Mac. Sometimes it can help with troubleshooting and even reset the cartridge error.
- Try a Printer Reset: You can perform a full reset on the printer. This involves pressing and holding the # and 6 buttons on the printer's control panel for about 20 seconds, and then releasing. This can help clear out persistent errors.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
