HP OfficeJet 5252 All-in-One Printer

Hello HP Team,

My printer prints blank lines horizontally through the middle of sentences, words, pictures. I have tried all troubleshooting steps at this point (Aligning cartridge, etc). I have replaced the printer cartridge. I do not know if there is really anything else that can be done.

Please let me know if you have seen the attached happen before and if you have a solution. Printer issue.PNG

The issue is apparent in the photo.

Thank you.

Hi @Janis_Greenland,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet 5252 is printing blank lines horizontally through the middle of sentences, words, or pictures, and you've already tried aligning the cartridges and replacing them, it’s likely an issue with the printhead or the printer's internal components. Here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

1. Perform a Printhead Cleaning:

  • Go to the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app.
  • Navigate to Setup or Tools and find the Clean Printhead or Printer Maintenance option. Follow the prompts to perform a cleaning.
  • Turn off the Printer: Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Remove the Printhead: Open the printer and remove the printhead (refer to the user manual for specific instructions).
  • Clean the Printhead: Gently wipe the printhead nozzles and contacts with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Reinstall and Test: Let the printhead dry completely before reinstalling it. Plug the printer back in and perform a test print.

2. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions:

  • Open all accessible areas of the printer and check for any paper jams or obstructions that could be affecting print quality.
  • Carefully remove any jammed paper and check the rollers for any debris or small paper fragments.

3. Print a Test Page:

  • Print Quality Report:
    • Print a diagnostic or quality report from the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app. This can help determine if the issue is consistent across different types of documents.

4. Verify Print Settings::

  • Ensure that the print settings are set to high quality. Access the print dialog box and select Quality or Properties to adjust the settings.

5. Update Printer Firmware::

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for firmware updates for your HP OfficeJet 5252. Follow the instructions to update the printer firmware.

6. Replace the Printhead (if needed)::

  • If cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue, you might need to replace the printhead. This can be ordered from HP or an authorized dealer. Check the user manual for instructions on replacing the printhead.

7. Check for Driver and Software Issues:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed. Update them through the HP Support website or your computer’s device manager.
  • Reinstall the HP software to ensure that there are no software-related issues affecting print quality.

8. Check Ink Levels and Cartridges:. Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Reset Printer:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve temporary issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
