Hi @lynv,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet 6960 is printing only blank pages despite trying all the recommended troubleshooting steps, and even new cartridges that work in another printer aren't helping, it could indicate a more complex issue. Here are some additional steps you can try.
Check the Ink Cartridges and Printhead
- Cartridge Compatibility: Make sure that the cartridges you are using are specifically compatible with the HP OfficeJet 6960. Even if they worked in another printer, they might not be recognized correctly by this model.
- Reinstall Cartridges: Remove the cartridges, power off the printer for a few minutes, and then reinstall them. Ensure they click into place.
- Clean the Printhead: Use the printer's utility software to clean the printhead. You can typically find this option in the printer's maintenance settings.
- Manual Printhead Cleaning: If the automatic cleaning doesn’t work, you can try manually cleaning the printhead:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the printer to access the printhead and remove the ink cartridges.
- Gently clean the printhead contacts with a lint-free cloth and a small amount of distilled water.
- Let it dry completely before reassembling the printer.
Reset the Printer
- Power Reset: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the internal hardware and clear any software glitches.
- Factory Reset: If a power reset doesn’t work, you might try a factory reset. Be aware that this will restore all settings to their defaults:
- On the printer's touchscreen, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
- Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to restart.
Update or Reinstall Printer Firmware
- Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause printing issues. Visit the HP website to check if there’s a firmware update for your printer and install it if available.
- Reinstall Firmware: If you already have the latest firmware, try reinstalling it to rule out any corrupt installations.
Test with Different Paper Types
- Try Different Paper: Occasionally, the printer might have difficulty feeding certain types of paper. Try printing on plain paper to see if the problem persists.
Try a Different Printer Driver
- Use a Basic Driver: Uninstall the current printer driver and install a basic driver or a different version that might work better with your operating system.
- HP Print and Scan Doctor: Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, a diagnostic tool provided by HP, which can automatically find and fix issues with your printer.

Test Printing from Different Devices
- Use a Different Computer or Device: Try printing from a different computer or mobile device to determine if the issue is with the printer or your current setup.
Inspect the Printer for Hardware Issues
- Paper Feed Issues: Check for any obstructions or issues with the paper feed mechanism.
- Physical Damage: Inspect the printer for any signs of damage that could affect printing, such as a broken printhead.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
