My printer OfficeJet Pro 9018e has continuous paper jam message. There is not a paper jam. Is there a hard reset or other way to make this go away. The printer is not set up on my wifi so I cannot update the firmware. Thinking this may be a lost cause.

Hi @MegFloyd,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I know how frustrating it is when your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018e keeps showing a paper jam error even though there’s no paper stuck inside. You’ve already tried checking for jams and mentioned that the printer isn’t connected to Wi-Fi, so firmware updates aren’t an option right now. Let’s walk through a few steps that can help clear this error and potentially revive your printer.
1. Perform a Full Power Reset
This helps clear internal memory and sensors.
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn the printer on.
2. Manually Check All Paper Paths
Even tiny scraps of paper or dust can trigger a false jam.
- Open the front door and lift the ink cartridge access door.
- Move the carriage gently to both sides and check for debris.
- Remove the paper path cover and inspect the rollers.
- Check the input tray, output tray, and rear access door (if present).
- Use a flashlight to inspect deep areas.

3. Clean the Paper Feed Rollers
Dust and fiber buildup can cause misfeeds that trigger jam errors.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- Clean the rollers gently.
- Let them dry for 10 minutes before turning the printer back on.
4. Try a USB Setup (If Wi-Fi Isn’t Available)
You can connect the printer via USB to a Windows 11 PC and use the HP Smart app to:
- Run diagnostics
- Check for firmware updates
- Reset internal error states
