My printer has been printing blue ink instead of black for my doc and for test pages EXCEPT one time it printed HP Network Config pages (all 3 pages) in black.
But my doc and Windows Printer Test Page and another test page all blue. When I first tried to print today (first time I've printed anything in weeks), my doc was blue type but it said change cartridge. So I did.
This is definitely an HP cartridge sent to my by HP printing service (instant ink) to which I'm a subscriber. The numbers on the new black cartridge match the numbers for the other cartridges.
However, a couple of times now I've seen on the printer a message saying incompatible cartridge. Not all the time though, and it DID print those 3 network config pages in black fine.
This is my only black cartridge. I don't even know how to ask Instant Ink to send me another cartridge asap. And I think it's something software rather than a problem with the printer.
And yes, I've tried disconnecting and turning off printer, taking out and putting cartridge back in, and various HP troubleshooter that don't address this issue.
Thanks In Advance

Hi @CovidGrrl,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
If you are experiencing poor print quality with your HP Officejet Pro 6960 printer, even with full HP cartridges, and being an Instant Ink user, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.
- Clean the printhead: Poor print quality can sometimes be caused by clogged printheads. Most HP printers have a built-in printhead cleaning function. You can usually find this option in the printer's settings or maintenance menu. Run the printhead cleaning cycle to remove any clogs that might be affecting the print quality.
- Check the ink cartridges: Even though you mentioned that the cartridges are full, it's worth double-checking to ensure they are properly installed and correctly seated in the printer. Remove the cartridges, inspect them for any signs of damage or leaks, and reinsert them securely into the printer.
- Align the printhead: Misalignment of the printhead can result in poor print quality. The alignment process varies depending on the printer model, but you can usually find the option in the printer's settings or maintenance menu. Follow the on-screen instructions to align the printhead properly.
- Update printer firmware and software: Outdated firmware or printer software can sometimes cause print quality issues. Visit the HP website and download the latest firmware and software updates specifically for your printer model. Install them following the provided instructions.

I hope this helps.
