Our printer seemed to be using more ink than when it was newer. I went to print a few B&W documents and they didn't print (though they remained in the queue). The printer did post a a message reading, "There is a problem with the printer or print system: Turn the printer Off, then On. If you continue to get this message, contact HP. 0x6100004a."
I unplugged the printer, plugged it back in, made sure that the cartridge vents were clean (they were) and made sure the gold metallic leads were clean (they were). I also check for paper jams and confirmed there were no jams or other items causing a problem. I noticed that there was a rainbow of still wet ink at the bottom of the inside of the printer (yet no signs of leakage on the cartridges). The printer now correctly prints both B&W and color documents.
Here's the question: Is this printer ready for the garbage can, or is this indicative of a larger problem?

@EEL93, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
The printer seems to be working fine and you are able to print in black and color. It means there is no issue with the printer hardware.
It could be a glitch.
If you experience print quality issues, you may clean the printhead from the printer control panel.
If at all the error reappear, perform the steps from - An 'Ink System Failure' or 'System Supply Problem' Error Displays
If the ink cartridges are leaking, follow the steps from this document - Leaking Ink Cartridge
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

The last time I attempted to print, the printer performed as expected. I will continue to monitor the printing errors. However, I am still mystified by the signs of leakage at the bottom of the printer and much higher than normal usage (even though the number of pages printed is relatively minor). The current cartridges do not show any signs of leakage. I have always used HP cartridges (bought new and never refilled).
