I've tried resetting the printer and aligning print heads, but the printer continues to print the colors incorrectly. How can I fix this?

@rkeehn, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Wrong Colors on HP OfficeJet Pro 8020!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 printer is experiencing issues with incorrect colors, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

1. Clean the Printhead

A common cause of incorrect colors can be a clogged printhead. Follow these steps to clean the printhead:

Access Printer Maintenance:

  • On the printer control panel, go to the Setup menu.
  • Select Printer Maintenance or Tools.

Initiate Cleaning:

  • Touch Clean Printhead, and then confirm by touching Continue.
  • After the cleaning process completes, a test page will print. Examine the test page.
  • If the print quality is unacceptable, you may need to perform further cleaning cycles. Wait about 30 minutes between cleaning cycles if the issue persists.

2. Check Ink Cartridges

Issues with ink cartridges can also lead to printing problems. Follow these steps:

Use Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • Replace non-HP or refilled cartridges with genuine HP cartridges for best results.

Check Ink Levels:

  • Use the printer control panel or HP Smart app to check ink levels. Replace any low or empty cartridges.
  • Inspect and clean the cartridge vents if necessary, removing any blockages with a pin or paper clip.

3. Evaluate Test Patterns

Print a Quality Diagnostic page to assess the print system:

  1. Print a Test Quality Report:
    • From the printer control panel, access the Setup menu and choose to print a Quality Diagnostic page.
    • Evaluate the test patterns for missing or incorrect colors and perform the necessary adjustments or cleanings.

Example of a color issue: cyan (blue) block is only partially printed. Cyan shows problems.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
