I recently moved and had my printer packed up in its original box for about 2 months. I hooked it back up and tried to print, but it will only print with black ink, despite having the color cartridges installed. I removed each cartridge and made sure the ink was still wet, which it was, and reinserted them to try again.
This did not work, so I tried replacing the Cyan and Yellow cartridges and my printer still won't print any color at all. Even when printing a "print quality report" directly from the printer (not through my computer), it completely leaves out all colored ink, other than black.
Of course my warranty ended RIGHT as I moved 2 months ago, so I'm feeling very upset about this and would appreciate any help or advice. Thank you!

@chapschtick, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
I understand the printer is not printing in color. Make sure you are using HP ink cartridges.
Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document - Black Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues
Clean the ink cartridges and the printhead up to 2 times and print a test page to check the result.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
If the issue persists even after replacing the ink cartridges, I'm afraid this is a hardware issue with the printer.
If the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

Thank you for your reply. I am enrolled in HP Instant Ink and have only ever used HP ink cartridges. I have discovered that there was an issue with Yellow and Cyan cartridges recently, could that be the issue I am facing? This link from HP states that "A manufacturing issue for certain supplies can cause print quality problems or even printer damage." I believe that I received defective ink cartridges through the Instant Ink program, because I had no issues with the printer before my last shipment of ink.
I followed the steps mentioned in the document you shared. When I clean the cartridges and print head, only black ink prints. Magenta, cyan, and yellow do not print out at all. If this truly is a hardware issue with the printer, I believe it has been caused by the defective cartridges. Can anything be done to rectify this problem?

I understand your concern. To check if your printer is affected by this issue,
-
Go to HP Printer Support and enter your printer's serial number. For help finding your printer serial number, click one of the Tip links on the page.
-
Follow the instructions on the page to identify your Cyan and Yellow cartridges.
-
If you see the message You're eligible for a free replacement, either sign in or create a new HP account to provide your shipping information.
In this case, HP will replace the defective product. However, if the printer is not eligible, it will not be replaced.
Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Hello, whenever I look up my printer serial number on the HP Printer Support page, I do not see which instructions I need to follow to identify my yellow and cyan cartridges, can you please send me a screenshot of where I need to click?
Thank you.

Once you enter the serial number, at the right top corner you will get a notification if the printer is affected by the issue mentioned in your previous post.
If you do not see any notifications about the same, the printer is not eligible for replacement as it is not affected. PFA.
For example:
Click on the bell icon to check the notification.
Keep me posted for any other assistance.

I had the same message, "A critical firmware update is available for your HP printer," but when I click to install it opens the HP Smart app and doesn't do anything else. I still cannot print in color at all.

Hi @chapschtick,
I'd like to help!
I understand you are unable to install the firmware update.
Try the below suggestions -
Reset the product
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
Also, try updating the printer's firmware -HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
