I just opened an HP 2-pack of 952XL ink cartridges to replace the empty black cartridge (which is exactly like the new one!).  Now I get a message about it being "an older generation that does not work".  I bought these cartridges at the same location I bought my printer, but I no longer have the receipt to return them, and they probably would not let me return an opened package anyway.  The cartridges cost way to much to not be able to use them.  I am also worried that any new cartridges I buy might be recognized as "an older generation" as well.

I have tried the suggestions found in other searches, but cannot get it to recognize the cartridge.

HP changed the design of the cartridges used in your printer and updated the firmware to reject the old generation cartridges.  See the document here for information.

HP should replace any genuine HP cartridges that are giving the Old Generation Cartridge error, I suggest you contact HP Support as described in the document above.
