We purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 in 2019, and we purchase cartridges from HP online or from the local Walmart. So, the issue isn't purchasing from a different region, as this has been pointed out as an issue before. If HP sends us out of region ink cartridges, that is not something I have control of and unfortunately is their problem, not mine. 

 

The cartridge itself is an HP genuine 952XL Magenta ink cartridge which the side panel indicates is compatible with the 8720 HP OfficeJet Pro. The cartridge itself says that warranty ends 2020/11 and is made in China. Code at the top of the cartridge says L0S64A.

 

Yes, I am very certain that I am installing the ink correctly. The error that pops up on the screen is as follows, word for word: The indicated cartridge is an older generation cartridge that does not work in your printer. It can still be used with some older printer models. If you do not own an older printer model and your cartridge is a genuine HP cartridge, contact HP support for more information.

 

Only question I have is why is only the XL being singled out when other older cartridges work just fine, and secondly, how do I request an exchange from HP since this is not a problem that I, the consumer, can be blamed for since the packaging says for all legal intents and purposes that I should be able to use this exact cartridge in this HP OfficeJet Pro. I do think it sides on false advertisement and fraud if you're pushing products without refunds or exchanges and all sales final that cannot be used in the listed versions.
