HP OfficeJet Pro 9120b

Why my product is not compatible with the instant ink service while it uses the same ink cartridges as the 9120e model?

Hi  @Thanos55

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand you would like to know why the OfficeJet Pro 9120b is not eligible for Instant Ink even though it uses the same ink cartridges as the OfficeJet Pro 9120e.

While both printers may use similar ink supplies, eligibility for HP Instant Ink is determined by the printer model's platform, regional configuration, and service enrollment capabilities. Certain models, such as the "e" series printers, are specifically designed to support HP+ and Instant Ink services, while other models may not include the required service integration features.

To better assist you, could you kindly share:

  • The country/region where the printer is currently being used
  • Any error message or notification you receive when attempting to enroll in HP Instant Ink

In the meantime, you may find the following HP document helpful, as it explains printer eligibility and requirements for HP Instant Ink:

I hope this helps.

Thank you for  your reply. I have just seen it. Well, the printer is used in Greece, where I bought it for home.

At the time I bought it, almost a year ago, there was an option to enroll in Instant Ink Service.

I had it with my previous HP OfficeJet 6960 model, and I was happy with it. I stopped it when the printer failed, which was quite a problem just after having used it for less than 3 years. Nevertheless, I bought again an HP product. At that moment, I didn't have heavy printing needs at home, so I thought to wait to finish the ink of the cartridges that were in the printer's package. When that happened, I decided that it was time to enroll.

I was surprised to see that the 9120b model was not supported. That was the message from the service.

The real issue here is that when I bought it, there was a sticker on the product's box about the Instant Ink service. So, I thought that I  bought a compatible product, only to find out, a year later that is not. At that time, there was no option to buy the 9120e model at the local stores. This is very disappointing. I had no option, but to buy the ink cartridges which cost me more than 70% of the printer's value. Last time for me to buy HP products! Sorry!

Hi @Thanos55,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and provide the background.

I completely understand why this situation would be disappointing, when purchasing your HP OfficeJet Pro 9120b, the Instant Ink promotional sticker on the box led you to believe the printer would be eligible for the service, especially since you had previously used and enjoyed Instant Ink with your HP OfficeJet 6960.

I can certainly understand how disappointing it must have been to discover later that the 9120b model is not supported for enrollment, particularly when this information only became apparent after the original cartridges were depleted.

We value your loyalty to HP, particularly given that you chose another HP product after your previous printer issue.
