HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One Printer - H711a/H711g

Printer has a red x Printer failure signal at top of screen, no printer error message or number. Seemed to happen when I put in new magenta cartridge.

Hi @Schmidlap,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When encountering a "Printer failure" message with a red "X" on an HP Officejet 6600 printer, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor glitches. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check Cartridge Installation: Since the issue seems to have occurred after installing a new magenta cartridge, ensure that the cartridge is properly installed. Open the printer's cartridge access door, remove the magenta cartridge, and then reinsert it securely.
  • Check for Cartridge Errors: Open the printer's control panel or software on your computer and check if there are any specific error messages related to the magenta cartridge. It's possible that the printer is not recognizing the new cartridge.
  • Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Dust or dirt on the cartridge contacts can cause communication issues between the cartridge and the printer. Carefully remove the magenta cartridge and clean the contacts on both the cartridge and the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model. Sometimes, firmware updates can address compatibility issues and improve overall performance.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Ensure that there are no paper jams or obstructions inside the printer that could be causing the error. Open all access doors and inspect the paper path.
  • Perform a Hard Reset: A hard reset can sometimes clear internal errors. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and then hold the power button down for 15 seconds. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Test with Another Cartridge: If possible, try using another magenta cartridge to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the problem is with the cartridge itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Had exact same issue, except it happened when I changed the Cyan cartridge.  Put the old one back in and the error went away, but can't print until I replace the cartridge.  Put the new one back in, Printer Failure error again.  Cartridge is new HP with expiration of 2024/02. Anyone know how to get a warranty replacement?
