My original printhead sort of sprung a "leak" and basically drowned in the excess ink. It told me to replace the printhead. I found one on ebay (is there a more reliable place to buy either a new one or refurb?) - the supplier sent one that the printer would not recognize at all, but the second one they sent seemed to fit right in - printer made all the right noises and seemed to be about to go... Then came up with an "Ink system error" - I cleaned the contact on my cartridges (not new HP cartridges, but new full cartridges) and restarted the printer. I took about 5 minutes of clunking, grinding and whirring before is showed my the normal print screens - I chose to print a test page from the cartridge fill menu item (it did show that the cartridges were not HP but that they were all full. Again it clunked, whirred and then came up with the same "Ink system" problem. So I shut the printer down and then restarted. It did all the normal stuff and finally came up to the main menu, I chose to do a "Printhead cleaning", about 5 minutes later is came up with the "Ink system" error on the first page and when I chose "OK" it gave me another screen where it said the "printhead was missing"
So do I need to request another printhead or is it possible that some other part is broken? I love this printer, has been a great one for years and I would like to fix it...
Any clues...?
