Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have a Officejet 7440.  I received a message the black cartridge was empty.  I switched it with a new HP 52 black cartridge.  It now has an error message that the cartridge is missing or damaged.  Tried a second black cartridge.  Same results.  Tried virtual assistant.  Followed steps.  No Joy.  What now?  New printer?
