HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I installed a NEW HP printhead last October and now (April) the printer is not recognizing the print head.  Keeps throwing errors to turn off then turn on then contact HP.  Obviously, it's out of warranty...do I just have to junk this printer or is there something I can clean, do, or replace to get it up and running again?

Hi @Sally103062,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet Pro 8600 is not recognizing the print head, there are a few steps you can take to try and resolve the issue.

  • Restart the printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for a few minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on.
  • Clean the print head: Use a lint-free cloth to gently wipe the print head and the contacts on the printer. Be careful not to touch the nozzles or the electrical contacts.
  • Check for firmware updates: Make sure your printer has the latest firmware updates installed. You can check for updates by going to the HP website and searching for your printer model.
  • Check the print head contacts: Make sure the print head contacts are clean and free of any debris or dust.
  • Replace the print head: If none of the above steps work, you may need to replace the print head. Contact HP support or a certified technician for assistance with this.
  • Check the ink cartridges: Make sure the ink cartridges are properly inserted and have sufficient ink levels. Low ink levels can also cause issues with print head recognition.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
