Hi @Dot-1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Good morning! If you’re receiving an error that your printhead is missing or installed incorrectly despite installing a new printhead, you can try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
1. Check Printhead Installation
- Ensure the printer is powered off before proceeding.
- Open the door or cover that provides access to the printhead.
- Carefully remove the printhead from its slot.
- Inspect the printhead and the printhead slot for any visible obstructions or damage.
- Reinstall the printhead, making sure it clicks into place securely.
- Close the door or cover properly and turn the printer back on.
2. Clean Printhead Contacts
- Ensure the printer is powered off.
- Take out the printhead carefully.
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the contacts on both the printhead and the printer.
- After cleaning, reinstall the printhead and close the printhead access door.
3. Check for Firmware Updates
- Go to the HP Support website.
- Enter your printer model (HP OfficeJet Pro 8600) and search for firmware updates.
- If a firmware update is available, follow the instructions to download and install it.
4. Perform a Printer Reset
- Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Leave the printer unplugged for at least 60 seconds to reset the printer.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Check if the error message persists.
5. Check for Printer Errors
- Look for any error codes or messages on the printer’s display.
- Refer to the printer’s manual for specific error codes and troubleshooting steps related to printhead issues.
6. Replace Ink Cartridges
- Ensure the ink cartridges are properly installed and not empty or defective.
- If you suspect an issue with the ink cartridges, try replacing them with new ones.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
