Hi @Jeep16,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 is displaying a “Cartridge Problem” message and you’ve already replaced the cartridges with new ones without improvement, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Verify Cartridge Installation

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the cartridges one by one and then reinstall them. Ensure each cartridge clicks into place and is seated properly.
  • Check that no protective tape or packaging is still on the cartridges.
  • Inspect the cartridges for any visible damage or defects. Even new cartridges can sometimes be defective.

2. Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Clean Cartridge Contacts:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Carefully remove the cartridges.
    • Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
    • Allow everything to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.

3. Perform a Printer Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • With the printer on, hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Release the button and allow the printer to restart.

4. Check for Firmware Update:

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for your OfficeJet Pro 8610 model.Download and install any available firmware updates.

5. Test Cartridges

  • Use Genuine HP Cartridges:
    • Ensure that you are using genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges might cause compatibility issues.
    • If possible, try using a different set of genuine HP cartridges to see if the issue persists.

6. Run Printer Diagnostic Tools

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Print Quality Report.
  • Check the report for any indications of issues with the cartridges or printhead.
  • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Align Cartridges and follow the prompts to align the cartridges.

7. Check for Software or Driver Issues:

  • Ensure that your printer drivers are up-to-date. Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest drivers for your model.

8. Perform a Printer Self-Test

  • Print a self-test report to help diagnose any hardware issues:
    • On the control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Print Report > Self-Test Report.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
