HP Officejet Pro 8710 "old generation Cartridge" error

Trying to use my HP brand printer Cartridges in the OfficeJet pro 8710 and keep getting a an error telling me that the printer cartridge is an "old generation cartridge that does not work in your printer" and that "It still can be used in some older printer models".  The confusion is that I am replacing the depleted HP cartridge with one another HP cartridge that I purchased at the same time.  The cartridge is out of date according to the package, however I have been printing fine for the past year on an out of date cartridge.  Can you please undo whatever update you did to my printer so that I can you my HP branded cartridges.
