I have the exact same problem as someone below reported at 01-05-2019 06:44 AM
I fix the problem using clean printhead, at least 2 times before the quality is back to ok.
It fixes the problem only for a short while. I regulary need to run the clean printhead excercise - sometimes several times per day.
Not a heavy user - like 100 pages per month ...

Hi @vaertgeerts,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It's frustrating to deal with print quality issues, especially if you have to run the clean printhead exercise frequently. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the problem with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 All-In-One Printer.
Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges: Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Using third-party or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause printing problems.
Check Ink Levels: Make sure your ink cartridges have enough ink. If they're low or empty, replace them.
Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date. You can usually download the latest drivers from the HP website.
Clean Printhead Manually: If the automatic clean printhead function isn't solving the problem, you can try manually cleaning the printhead. Here's how:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the printer to access the printhead.
- Remove the ink cartridges.
- Dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water (not tap water) and gently wipe the printhead to remove any dried ink or debris.
- Let the printhead dry completely.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges, close the printer, and turn it on.
Check for Clogs: Inspect the printhead for any visible clogs or obstructions. If you see any, try to gently remove them using a soft, lint-free cloth.
Adjust Print Settings: Make sure your print settings match the type of paper you're using. Sometimes, adjusting the print quality settings can also improve print quality.
Use High-Quality Paper: Low-quality paper can affect print quality. Use good-quality, recommended paper for your printer.
Perform Deep Cleaning: If regular printhead cleaning isn't working, your printer may have a deep cleaning option. This is a more intensive cleaning process that can help resolve stubborn print quality issues.
Check for Firmware Updates: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website. Sometimes, firmware updates can address printing issues.
Remember to follow the HP instructions and safety guidelines when performing any maintenance or cleaning procedures on your printer. Additionally, keeping your printer in a clean and dust-free environment can also help prevent print quality issues in the long run.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
