Hi @Scottierock,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 8015 printer is completely blocked: you cannot access the cartridges, the printer seems offline from Wi-Fi, and the software may not be responding. Let’s go step by step to regain access and replace the cartridges safely.

1. Power Cycle the Printer

Turn the printer off, unplug it from power for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

This clears temporary software or firmware glitches.

2. Manually Access the Cartridges

Open the top cover of the printer.

Wait a few moments — the carriage should move to the center automatically.

If it doesn’t move, try pressing and holding the Resume/Cancel button for 3–5 seconds while the printer is on.

Once the carriage moves, you can remove the old cartridges.

3. Reset the Printer (if Carriage Still Stuck)

Press and hold the Power button for 10–15 seconds until the printer restarts.

This can unlock a frozen carriage or blocked access.

4. Replace the Cartridges

Insert new genuine HP cartridges firmly until they click in place.

Close the cover.

5. Reconnect to Wi-Fi

Press the Wireless button to start Wi-Fi setup.

Use HP Smart app on your phone or PC to reconnect the printer.

Make sure your device is on the same Wi-Fi network.

6. Update Printer Software / Firmware

Once the printer is accessible, open HP Smart → Printer Settings → Update.

Installing the latest firmware fixes glitches that can block cartridge access.

I hope this helps.

Hi Kenshi, thank you for your advices. I followed all your steps but the button never shut down the machine. Even after respecting the printer restart times for reinitializing. No access to the tactile screen. I need to unpluggled to turn of the printer. The carriage is blocked.I tried to reinstall the software with USB wire and i have got the beginning with HP logobut stop to the middle of charging,  the carriage blocked. So i cannot change my HP colors cartridges. Smartprint doesnt work, in parameters ive got a blank page. My HP 8015 worked withoutproblems untill the new software charged in March 2025. I had true HP cartridges but empty for  long time because i used only black HP cartridges. I own HP G85 et 6200 printers  for many years without such problems.  It seems to happen with this new software.   The hardware works but too much software which is not easy to  repare !! Best regards  Scott
