Hi @Lynnhodges,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you’re describing with your HP PageWide Pro MFP 477dw sounds like it might be due to a problem with the printhead or the printhead nozzles being clogged. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this issue.

Check Printhead Health

  1. Print a Print Quality Report:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings.
    • Select Reports.
    • Select Print Quality Report.
    • This report can help identify any issues with the printhead.

Clean the Printhead

  1. From the Printer Control Panel:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings.
    • Select Tools.
    • Select Clean Printhead.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions. You may need to run the cleaning cycle several times.

Align the Printhead

  1. From the Printer Control Panel:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings.
    • Select Tools.
    • Select Align Printhead.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Check the Ink Cartridges

  1. Inspect the Ink Cartridges:
    • Open the ink cartridge access door.
    • Make sure the cartridges are properly installed.
    • Check for any ink leaks or damage to the cartridges.

Firmware Update

  1. Update Printer Firmware:
    • Go to the HP support website and check for any firmware updates for your printer model.
    • Download and install any available updates.

Manual Printhead Cleaning

  1. Clean the Printhead Manually:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Open the ink cartridge access door and remove the ink cartridges.
    • Locate the printhead and gently clean it with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
    • Allow the printhead to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges and powering the printer back on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
