Hi @Lynnhodges,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you’re describing with your HP PageWide Pro MFP 477dw sounds like it might be due to a problem with the printhead or the printhead nozzles being clogged. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this issue.
Check Printhead Health
- Print a Print Quality Report:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings.
- Select Reports.
- Select Print Quality Report.
- This report can help identify any issues with the printhead.
Clean the Printhead
- From the Printer Control Panel:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings.
- Select Tools.
- Select Clean Printhead.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. You may need to run the cleaning cycle several times.
Align the Printhead
- From the Printer Control Panel:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings.
- Select Tools.
- Select Align Printhead.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Check the Ink Cartridges
- Inspect the Ink Cartridges:
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Make sure the cartridges are properly installed.
- Check for any ink leaks or damage to the cartridges.
Firmware Update
- Update Printer Firmware:
- Go to the HP support website and check for any firmware updates for your printer model.
- Download and install any available updates.
Manual Printhead Cleaning
- Clean the Printhead Manually:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the ink cartridge access door and remove the ink cartridges.
- Locate the printhead and gently clean it with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
- Allow the printhead to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges and powering the printer back on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
