Hi there HP community,
I have a HP Photosmart 5515 all in 1 printer, scanner and copier and have recently bought some 3rd party cartridges from Stinky Ink, who claim they are compatible. Well the physically fit in the machine but so far I have not been able to get them to actually print. I have reset the printer, uninstalled and reinstalled the machine, disabled the cartridge protection option in the settings and none of these have fixed the issue of when I go to print, I get this message:
"Non-HP ink cartridge(s) installed. Yellow. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP supplies. Printer service or repairs required as a result of using a non-HP supply will not be covered under warranty. HP recommends that you do not remove an ink cartridge until replacement is ready to install."
The option is to click 'OK', however when I do, there is another message "waiting for printer to become available" and nothing happens. I have search 100's of pages who all claim that disabling the cartridge protection works, which is doesn't, Is anyone able to guide me through this probelm?
Thank you
Alex

Cartridge Protection is used to prevent installed ink cartridges from being removed and then used in a different printer.
What?
Cartridge Protection is used to dissuade thieves - for example, in a work environment - and has nothing to do with whether the cartridge is compatible because of its brand.
Product introduced 2011
There is no "dynamic security" on this printer that prevents non-HP ink cartridges from being used.
That said, non-HP cartridges are not supported.

What if?
There might be something wrong with the individual cartridge and / or perhaps the printer cannot detect the necessary cartridge chip information that tells the printer "this cartridge is OK".

Hi there,
Thanks for your suggestion.
I had thought that and Stinky Ink did send out a replacement as they customer service is very good, so sent me out a brand new set of cartridges but it gives me the same issue so i'm led to believe that the issue is with the printer and not the cartidges. Any other suggestions?
Thanks

No, no other ideas.
Sorry.
The whole process is not supported - even given that the printer is so old that there is nothing preventing the use of third part ink, there is no guarantee the printer will do so.
You might get away with a good cleaning of anything you can reach - but the results might well be exactly the same.

Not intended as a solution - an observation about the vagaries of "third party ink":

... But there are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it is not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
Happier 2021 - we all deserve a better year.
