we have had this printer for a while and never had an issue with changing cartridges. We go to change them out today and it is like the new ones or the old ones will NOT click back into place. It is giving us errors such as the door is open, cartridges not installed and cartridge carrier stuck. I tried to install the old cartridges back, but it is giving the same errors. It also looks like the cartridges are not clicking into where they once clicked before. We have done a hard reset on the printer and its still giving error messages. still cant get the cartridges to click into pace. We always use HP products. Please help!

Hi @Fairkitty ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're having a frustrating issue with your HP Deskjet 2514 All-in-One Printer not recognizing or securing the cartridges properly. Let's try a few troubleshooting steps to address this issue:

1. Inspect the Cartridge Area

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  • Open the cartridge access door and inspect the interior for any obstructions or debris that could prevent the cartridges from seating properly.
  • Check the cartridge carrier (carriage) for any visible signs of damage or anything that might block the cartridges from being installed correctly.

2. Check the Cartridges

  • Make sure that the cartridges you are trying to install are compatible with the HP Deskjet 2514 printer. This printer typically uses HP 61 cartridges (both black and color).
  • Inspect the cartridges for any protective tape or packaging that may not have been removed. Sometimes, the protective tape over the copper contacts and nozzles can cause installation issues.
  • Check the cartridges for any visible damage, such as broken clips or pins that might prevent them from clicking into place.

3. Reinstall the Cartridges

  • Hold the cartridge by its sides with the nozzles facing the printer. Insert the cartridge into its slot. The black cartridge goes into the right slot, and the color cartridge goes into the left slot.
  • Slide the cartridge forward into the slot until it clicks into place. You might need to apply a bit of pressure to ensure it is securely seated. However, do this gently to avoid damaging the cartridge or the printer.
  • Close the cartridge access door and see if the error messages disappear.

4. Reset the Printer Again

  • Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet, and wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.

5. Check for Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Sometimes, printers may have firmware updates that address cartridge recognition issues. You can check for any available firmware updates for your printer model on the HP support website.

6. Clean the Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  • Remove the cartridges and use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
  • Allow the contacts to dry for a few minutes before reinstalling the cartridges.

7. Check the Cartridge Door

  • Make sure the cartridge access door is properly closed. If the door is not fully closed, the printer may show an error indicating the door is open.

8. Inspect the Cartridge Carrier Mechanism

  • With the printer turned off and unplugged, gently move the cartridge carrier (carriage) back and forth a few times to ensure it moves smoothly. If it feels stuck or does not move freely, there could be an internal mechanical issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
