How to Replace the Printhead on HP Smart Tank Plus 551

Before You Begin

• Make sure the printer is powered on.
• Load plain paper in the input tray.
• Ensure all ink tanks are at least half full.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Open the Front Door
   • Gently lift the front access door of the printer.
      
2. Wait for the Printhead Carriage to Center
   • The carriage should automatically move to the center.
   • If it doesn’t, you can gently move it manually once the printer is off.
      
3. Open the Printhead Latch
   • Press and release the blue latch to open the printhead cover.
      
4. Remove the Old Printhead
   • Carefully lift the printhead straight out.
   • Hold it upright and avoid touching the copper contacts or ink nozzles.
      
5. Prepare the New Printhead
   • Remove it from the packaging.
   • Pull the plug straight up from the top.
   • Remove the protective tape using the pull tabs.
      
6. Install the New Printhead
   • Slide it into the slot at a slight upward angle until it clicks into place.
      
7. Close the Printhead Cover and Front Door
    
8. Align the Printhead
   • An alignment page will print automatically.
   • Follow the instructions on the page to scan and complete alignment.
